President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged Senate leaders to “stop” the FBI director from testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee and said he believes he’ll receive a “fair” trial.
Trump said during a press conference Tuesday that “it would be good for me to get a fair trial.”
Trump also said he wants Comey to testify before the committee and he has not ruled out a request for a grand jury to be convened in the case.
He also said that if he were a “criminal,” he would have the FBI Director testify.
The FBI director testified before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday.
The president said he would not rule out testifying to the Senate intelligence committee, but that he would “make a decision on that, and I don’t know how long.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request from Recode for comment on Trump’s remarks.
