Posted March 08, 2019 09:30:10 A rose tattoo design can make the difference between a happy, happy-looking person and a sad, sad-looking one, according to a new study published in the Journal of Psychology.
In the study, the researchers showed participants photographs of three types of tattoo designs.
One of the designs consisted of a tattooed toe.
The second consisted of an eyebrow tattoo.
The third was a rose design.
Participants were asked to rate how happy, sad, or angry they were when they saw the designs.
“Tattooing can be a powerful way to express yourself, especially if you have an unusual style, or a personal style, said study co-author Sarah Tompkins, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.”
For others, tattoos are a simple way to make friends and make money. “
Some people feel very strongly about them.”

For those who want to have a lasting relationship with a tattoo, the design can have an emotional impact, said co-investigator Kristin A. McLeod, a doctoral candidate in psychology at University of Arizona.
The results were consistent across people of all ages, including those who did not have tattoos.
The designs were perceived as having a positive effect on those participants.
“I’m not surprised that a rose can evoke a happy emotion,” McLeod said.
“You can see that there is a lot of emotional connection and connection with the design that can be strong.
It’s also very effective for people who have anxiety about the tattoo.”
The researchers found that the design made participants feel happy.
In contrast, the other designs had negative emotional associations.
“When people are told that their design has a negative emotional effect, they are likely to be more fearful about the design and less positive about themselves,” Toms said.
In addition, the study found that participants who liked the design were more likely to have their own tattoo designs to share with others.
McLeod said she is particularly interested in the connection between people’s tattoos and their sense of self.
“We know that people’s self-esteem is a major determinant of how much they value their body,” McClods said.
People’s tattoo designs are a unique way of communicating their identity, Tompkes said.
A person might have a very strong desire to be liked by other people, and their tattoo designs may be an expression of this desire.
“If people want to be loved, they want their own designs, and they want to express their own personality,” she said.
